Oh my goodness, dear ones! Have you seen the cuteness that is Jan Brett’s “The Mitten” winter theme for preschool? You guys, it’s SO much fun, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
First up, we have this adorable image:
How cute is that? I just love the little animals snuggled up in the mitten! And the best part? There are SO many ways you can use this in your winter-themed lesson plans. Here are just a few ideas:
Idea #1: Retell the Story
Start by reading “The Mitten” to your kiddos. Then, pull out some animal figures (or have the kiddos draw their own), and let them act out the story. You could also have them create their own mini-mitten out of construction paper to hold their animals.
Idea #2: Mitten Matching
Print out a few copies of the mitten image and cut each one apart into separate pieces. Laminate the pieces if you want to use them year after year. Then, challenge your kiddos to put the mitten back together again. You could even turn it into a race!
Idea #3: Color Matching
Print out a few copies of the mitten image (use the same one as above). Then, cut out circles from colored construction paper or foam. Have your kiddos match the colored circles to the circles on the mitten image.
There are SO many other ideas you could do with this adorable image! Use your imagination and have some winter-themed fun with your preschoolers!
