Euchre Basics

Never played Euchre before? No problem! Here’s a quick rundown of the rules:

  • Euchre is played with 4 players (in teams of 2) and a deck of 24 cards (9s, 10s, jacks, queens, kings, and aces).
  • The objective is to be the first team to score 10 points by winning tricks (rounds of cards).
  • The trump suit (the suit that beats all other suits) is determined by the top card of the remaining undealt cards (the “upcard”).
  • Players bid on how many tricks they think they can win, and the highest bidder gets to choose the trump suit.
  • If a team wins the number of tricks they bid, they get 1 point. If they win all 5 tricks, they get 2 points (a “march”).
  • If the non-bidding team wins the majority of tricks, they get 2 points (a “euchre”).
  • If a team reaches 10 points, they win the game!
