Hey, hey, hey! Look who’s back with more funny content for y’all. It’s your favorite writer, the one and only… *drumroll*… ME! And today, we’re gonna be talking about some freaky dude called Mat Man. Don’t worry, he’s not dangerous, just weird.
First Encounter with Mat Man
So, I’m just browsing the internet, minding my own business, when suddenly, I stumbled upon this picture. It’s a guy made out of shapes… What the actual heck?! I thought I was hallucinating or something.
But nope, it turns out that this guy, Mat Man, is actually a character from GWRSD Occupational Therapy. According to that blog post, Mat Man is supposed to help children learn about body awareness, sequencing, and pre-writing skills. I mean, I guess somebody has to do it, right?
Getting to Know Mat Man
As I kept reading, I found out that Mat Man is made up of different shapes that represent body parts. Head, body, arms, legs, and even hands that can hold things! This is some next level stuff, people. I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember learning about body parts like this back in the day.
But it doesn’t stop there. Apparently, Mat Man also has a catchy song that goes along with him. I’ll spare you the pain of hearing me sing it, so here are some of the lyrics:
Mat Man, Mat Man,
Can you make a Mat Man?
Make the head, and the body,
And the arms and the legs
And don’t forget the hands,
It’s Mat Man!
Wow. Just, wow. I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be singing about making body parts out of shapes. But you know what? It’s kinda catchy.
The Power of Manipulatives
Now, I don’t know about y’all, but I remember being a kid and having to learn about shapes, colors, and all that jazz. And it wasn’t very fun. But Mat Man? He’s changing the game.
Not only does he help kids learn about body awareness, but he also helps with pre-writing skills. How, you ask? Well, GWRSD Occupational Therapy created these little cards with different shapes on them that kids can use to create their own Mat Men (or Women, of course).
And let me tell you, as a former kid myself, manipulatives make learning so much more fun. Plus, it’s a lot easier to remember something when you’re physically doing it, rather than just reading about it in a book.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Mat Man may be freaky, but he’s also pretty darn cool. Not only does he teach kids about body awareness and pre-writing skills, but he also incorporates manipulatives and a catchy song. I mean, what’s not to like?
So, if you’re a parent, caregiver, teacher, or just a curious person like myself, give Mat Man a chance. Who knows, you might even learn something new.
That’s it for today, folks. Stay tuned for more funny content from yours truly. Until next time!
